Celebrity Street Style of the Week: Drew Barrymore, Amy Smart, & Thandie Newton

Every week, I bring you guys new looks that our favorite celebrities are captured wearing on the streets; I think this is an awesome way to get outfit inspiration! This week, the looks that caught my eye were those of Drew Barrymore, Amy Smart, and Thandie Newton. Below, I’ve channeled each of their looks into a more affordable version.
Before we get to the looks, I’d also like to point out that while all three stars are wearing heels in their looks, heels may not always be the most practical footwear of a college gal on the go. Therefore, I think flat sandals would work just as nicely with each outfit. As always, these looks are made to be edited to fit your own personal aesthetic and lifestyle.
Look 1: Drew’s Cool Colorful Combination
Drew Barrymore stepped out in a bright purple skirt, a light lilac tank top, a green military jacket, some gray suede pumps, and Ray Ban sunglasses. I wanted to recreate this look because the color combination is quite unexpected; I don’t know if I would have ever tried purple on purple, along with some army green on top! Somehow though, Drew’s look is pulled together and chic, and would work in a ton of different settings– the skirt and heels are dressy, but the tank top and jacket keep it casual.

Skirt, Tank top, Jacket, Shoes, Sunglasses
I found this purple tie-waist pencil skirt which is similar to Drew’s. I love it because, in contrast to Drew’s leather-looking version, this skirt has a bit more of an “everyday” look, and when you are on the budget of a college girl, it’s generally best to pick pieces that will be the most versatile for a variety of different settings.
The tank top I chose is simple and has a low neckline like Drew’s– be sure to tuck it into the skirt so that you can emphasize your waist! I’m loving how the Ray Ban (folding!) Wayfarers play off of the military jacket, juxtaposed against the “girlishness” of the hues and the dressiness of the pumps and skirt. The platform pumps, by the way, are almost identical to Drew’s, but must cost a great deal less than hers. Score!
Look 2: Amy Smart’s Plaid and Buckled Wedges
I loved Amy Smart’s night look because it is different from your typical “clubbing outfit” (she was spotted leaving London’s Cirque Club). Above, she is sporting some tough-looking buckled wedges, an oversize plaid shirt, black shorts, and a black clutch. I believe in choosing one part of your body to expose at a time, and Amy has chosen her legs, in this case; the oversize shirt is balanced out by the short shorts and heels!

Shirt, Shorts, Shoes, Clutch, Pyramid ring (top), Hammered ring (bottom)
This plaid boyfriend-style shirt is great because it’s a bit sheer, so you won’t feel all stuffy in a heavier flannel number if you want to take this look out on the town, like Amy! I am a huge fan of these black shorts because they feature a ricrac hemline, which makes them unique, and contrasts with the toughness of the buckled wedges. The black clutch is a staple which will work with tons of different looks, and it has a cool asymmetrical flap with an exposed zipper, matching the tenacious feel of the shoes. Finally, adding some cool rings, like this pyramid double-ring and hammered ring, give the outfit a bit more pizazz.
Look 3: Thandie’s Classic Trench
Thandie Newton (can I just say that I loved her in Rocknrolla?!) looked chic while out shopping this week, in some gray skinny jeans, a white tank top, a beige trench coat, and some impressive brown wedges. Note how she buckled her shoes over her jeans– cool! A trench is a classic piece which should eventually find the way into every girl’s wardrobe; I like how Thandie keeps her trench looking modern by pairing it with her strappy wedges.

Trench coat, Jeans, Tank top, Belt, Shoes, Bag
The trench coat is the main piece to focus on when recreating this look. Otherwise, the ensemble features a plain canvas of an outfit underneath, consisting of gray skinny jeans and a white tank top– so always remember how a statement outerwear item can totally transform your look! The accessories aren’t too wild either; I found a skinny brown belt and a brown shoulder bag (love the shape– it fits a ton!). Finally, of course, are the almost gladiator-esque wedges; whether or not you decide to buckle them over the jeans, like Thandie did, is up to you!
